The outdoor exhibition
OUR BALTIC SEA
OUR BALTIC SEA is a large format, outdoor exhibition that tells a slightly different story to that which we are used to hearing in the media. It tells the story about a Baltic Sea where we are beginning to see signs of recovery as a result of the efforts on land. It tells the story about species that almost became extinct, but that have recovered and are now thriving in the Baltic Sea. It tells the story of a Baltic Sea with species found nowhere else in the world, species with unique adaptations. And it tells the story of a sea still worth fighting for, OUR SHARED BALTIC SEA.
The Baltic Sea is often said to be one of the world's most polluted seas and the problems with eutrophication, lack of oxygen, overfishing, and environmental toxins are gigantic. It is easy to feel overwhelmed by this negative picture and give up. The challenges facing the Baltic Sea are of course real but not insurmountable.
With this outdoor exhibition we want to convey hope, spread knowledge and engender commitment. The visitor leaves the exhibition with the feeling that it is possible to change, that it is possible to influence and that many of the environmental measures are working.
The exhibition consists of 15 photos that are 2.5 x 2 meters in size. Each photo has an explanatory text. In the evening, the exhibition is lit up. A teacher’s guide has been produced for use by schools that visit the exhibition.
